Johannesburg, South Africa – A 30-year-old Namibian woman was arrested early this morning at OR Tambo International Airport on suspicion of drug trafficking. The arrest followed a joint operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS), SARS customs, and immigration officials.

The woman, identified as a drug mule, had arrived on a flight from São Paulo, Brazil, landing at approximately 07:25 AM. Intelligence from SAPS indicated that a drug mule carrying illegal substances would be on the flight. Acting swiftly on this tip-off, the authorities intercepted the suspect as she attempted to pass through immigration.

Upon her detention, a thorough search was conducted, leading to the discovery of illicit substances concealed on her person. SAPS officials confirmed that she had been under surveillance due to her suspected involvement in an international drug trafficking network.

The woman is currently in custody and is expected to face charges related to drug smuggling and contravening South Africa’s narcotics laws. SAPS spokesperson emphasized the ongoing efforts by the police and customs officials to combat the smuggling of narcotics through key entry points like OR Tambo International Airport.

Further investigations are underway to determine the exact nature of the drugs, their origin, and any potential connections to larger trafficking syndicates.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tightening security at the airport and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
