Durban, 12 September 2024 – In a significant breakthrough, a coordinated intelligence-driven operation resulted in the successful arrest of four suspects allegedly involved in a business robbery in Gauteng, which led to the theft of jewellery worth approximately R200,000.

The operation unfolded after authorities received crucial information about individuals reportedly attempting to sell stolen jewellery in KwaZulu-Natal. Acting swiftly, police followed a blue VW Polo, which had been tracked from the Marianhill area, all the way to Innes Road, Durban.

A joint task force comprising Durban Metro Police and private security services set up an interception point at a service station in the Morningside area. The suspects were apprehended without incident, and upon searching their vehicle, the officers discovered jewellery linked to a robbery in Boksburg North, Gauteng.

Preliminary investigations confirmed that the jewellery was stolen during a violent business robbery. During the initial robbery, when police officers tried to intervene, the suspects opened fire, injuring a bystander.

The arrests mark a significant victory in the fight against organized crime, though investigations are still ongoing to uncover any further links or accomplices. Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any additional information that may aid in this investigation.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon, where they will face multiple charges, including armed robbery, attempted murder, and possession of stolen property.
