In addition, the department has set up an internal Infrastructure Unit responsible for a maintenance and refurbishment program, which was previously managed by another department. Significant progress has been made, with ICU wards at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital, and Jubilee District Hospital already completed. Discoverers CHC and Kopanong Hospital have also undergone extensive refurbishments, and Helen Joseph Hospital is set to receive attention soon.

The department encourages patients to report service complaints to quality assurance offices located at healthcare facilities or contact the GDoH Quality Assurance office directly. The 24-hour toll-free customer line is 0800 203 886, or patients can email patientscomplaints.health@gauteng.gov.za or support@gauteng.gov.za. Complaints can also be sent via SMS to 35023.
