A fire broke out at the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) Head Office in the early evening of 8 September 2024. The fire, which started in the West Wing Block of the Poyntons Building, affected the sixth floor. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
The City of Tshwane Emergency Services quickly responded to the scene, managing to extinguish the fire before it could spread further. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and all personnel who were inside the building at the time have been safely evacuated and accounted for.
The DCS has assured the public that the safety of its employees and the security of its facilities remain a top priority. An investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the fire.
