Activist Mayibuye Mandela has called for the government to compensate the victim of alleged identity theft linked to the investigation of former Miss SA contestant Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina's nationality. Adetshina, born to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, has caused the victim of identity theft has faced severe economic hardships for 23 years, unable to access employment, financial services, and social benefits. The proposed compensation aims to mitigate long-term economic damages and address the psychological and emotional toll of the prolonged victimship. The proposed amount also aims to restore the victim's dignity and rights, which were stripped away due to the fraudulent act, and seeks to rectify the injustices endured, as stated by Mandela. The home affairs department has suggested that the identity theft might have been committed by the person registered as Adetshina's mother.
Mandela has written a letter to the department demanding compensation, stating that the compensation aims to mitigate long-term economic damages, address the psychological and emotional toll of being a victim of identity theft, and restore the victim's dignity and rights. He claims that the proposed amount considers cumulative financial losses over the 23-year period and is a necessary and justified measure to address the extensive and long-term effect of the identity theft case. Mandela has demanded the immediate arrest of all individuals involved in the alleged fraudulent activity, including Adetshina's mother and home affairs officials responsible for issuing the ID.
