A 25-year-old man has been rearrested for raping a 77-year-old woman in Dikweteng village, Dientjie. The man broke into the elderly woman's house and assaulted her for two days. The woman is now in hospital with injuries. The man escaped before community members responded to the call. He was arrested on Sunday in Ohristad. The man previously raped and stabbed an 83-year-old granny in March at Didimala village, Dientjie. The 83-year-old granny was admitted to the hospital until she died in May. The man is expected to appear in the Dientjie periodical court on Tuesday. The provincial commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Maj-Gen Zeph Mkhwanazi, has condemned the suspect's actions and vowed to ensure a thorough investigation for justice.

ACTIONS TO DEAL WITH GBV

South Africa's government has introduced the National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Bill, a crucial step towards protecting women and children from abuse and violence. The bill establishes a statutory body to provide strategic leadership in the fight against gender-based violence and femicide. The council, which will involve civil society, labour, and business, will use a more inclusive, focused, and better resourced approach to strengthen national efforts to combat gender-based violence.
