Losing Lerato is a South African action/thriller about a successful black man, Long, who kidnaps his daughter after life's events separate them. Long loses his job due to accusations of fraudulent activities, and his wife, Noluthando, abandons her marriage and takes their daughter, Lerato. Thami is desperate to maintain a relationship with Lerato, while Noluthando tries to prevent Thami from accessing her. After trying all possible routes, Thami kidnaps Lerato from school and plans to flee Johannesburg for Kimberley by bus. This ill-conceived move angers Noluthando and puts Thami on a collision course with the law. Thami's actions put his life, that of Lerato, and their fellow passengers in danger, leading to a high-stakes hostage situation on the bus.

Losing Lerato 2 is premiering on Netflix on 2 August. The sequel to Losing Lerato 1 will continue the love story between a father and daughter, focusing on the challenges of becoming a father and a dad. The drama beautifully delves into the emotional roller coaster relationship between Thami and his daughter Lerato, eloquently exploring themes of love, sacrifice, and the unbreakable bonds of family. The film also aims to show that it takes a lot for someone to become a dad, and the relationship Thami had built with his daughter is a lifetime relationship. Executive producer Rashaka Muofhe advised audiences to prepare for a sobering lesson like true love.

Bakwena Productions tells true South African stories that have a global effect, touching the world and the bond between a father and a child. The film touches on the impact of the bond between a father and a daughter, family values and how they come into play, and how even the bad guys can become the good guys.
