Police in Limpopo have apprehended a 45-year-old suspect following a significant drug bust that took place on Wednesday afternoon, 10 July 2024, at Maralaleng village in Lebowakgomo policing area outside Polokwane.
In a well-coordinated operation, members of the Provincial Flying Squad, acting on a tip-off, cornered the suspect near a major fast food outlet at the shopping centre in Lebowakgomo. The suspect was tactically approached while sitting inside his Toyota Hilux bakkie and was searched. He was found in possession of three sachets of crystal meth. The officers continued to search his vehicle, and they discovered 300 sachets of heroin (nyaope) and 80 sachets of cocaine drugs hidden at various places.
The diligent officers proceeded with their investigation and carried out a search on the suspect's property in Maralaleng village. They uncovered a significant amount of similar drugs and over R30,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug dealing. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is R5 million.
Furthermore, a thorough investigation led to the recovery of an illegal firearm with three live rounds of ammunition and the confiscation of the suspect's vehicle as part of the inquiry.
Preliminary findings indicated that the suspect was selling drugs, even to school children across various schools. Additionally, he has a similar pending case before the Mankweng Regional Court.
