Motorists have been advised to avoid several roads in and around Noordgesig in Soweto after protests flared up on Wednesday morning.

Nearby residents reported hearing explosions at night as if unrest was happening. This has sparked fear among residents, who were unsure what was happening. Police were quickly deployed to the scene to mitigate the issue. However, it is believed that this incident was purportedly connected to the ongoing taxi violence in Soweto, the police in Soweto opened an inquiry.

The shooting on Tuesday happened in Noordgesig and involved cab drivers who were firing close to a nearby primary school. According to reports from JOZI FM NEWS on Facebook, four members of the WATA taxi organisation were hurt during the event, and they needed immediate medical care at the nearby hospital.

The gunmen are thought to have been wielding AK-47s.
As of right now, there is no known reason for the shooting, and no one has been taken into custody. The national traffic police have returned to patrol all troublesome roads in and around Soweto. According to WATA's Pro Hamilton Miya, there are reports that a car just vanished out of nowhere and started shooting at their cars.

The road closure has caused severe traffic jams, as motorists had to find alternative routes to reach their destinations. The road was blocked by JMPD this morning, guiding motorists in the right direction.
