Electoral Court dismisses Khumalo’s bid to be reinstated as MK Party leader

Jabulani Khumalo, the founder of the MK Party, has been dismissed from his position as leader of the party after the Electoral Court rejected his bid for reinstatement. Khumalo filed an urgent application against the IEC's decision to remove him as party leader and recorded Zuma instead, claiming to want the IEC to recognize him as president of MKP.

The court dismissed his case, with costs, stating that the application constitutes an abuse of the court's process and a waste of resources. The court argued that a punitive costs order against Khumalo is the most appropriate way to ensure his conduct and send a message to the public that false statements under oath and abuse of the court's process will not be countenanced. Khumalo was expelled in April after the party said it was "cleansing itself," and Zuma has now replaced him as the leader and face of MKP.
