In a recent bilateral meeting held on the 28th of June 2024 at Inanda Country Club, Johannesburg, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) presented their position regarding the constitution of South Africa’s 7th democratic administration. This letter, addressed to Mr. Fikile Mbalula, Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC), outlines the EFF's stance and proposals for a potential coalition government with the ANC.

Key Points from the EFF’s Letter:

  1. Acknowledgement of ANC's Role: The EFF acknowledges the ANC's historic role in the liberation of oppressed peoples from apartheid and colonialism, emphasizing the importance of the Freedom Charter and the National Democratic Revolution (NDR).

  2. Commitment to Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption: The EFF reiterates its commitment to the rule of law, the supremacy of the constitution, and principles of anti-corruption, accountability, and transparency.

  3. Opposition to Reactionary Policies: The EFF vows to oppose any deviation by the ANC from its historic mission towards reactionary, collaborationist, and right-wing political programs.

  4. Collaboration Based on Common Goals: The EFF believes that the ANC’s successive election manifestos, particularly the 2024 Elections Manifesto, provide common ground for co-governance and mutual trust.

  5. Historical Collaboration: The EFF cites past coalition governments with the ANC at local levels in Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Eastern Cape, and Free State since 2022, which have brought stability to affected municipalities.

  6. Rejection of ANC/DA Alliance: The EFF expresses its disapproval of any alliance between the ANC and the Democratic Alliance (DA), labeling such an alliance as counter-revolutionary and imperialist.

  7. Exclusion of DA and FF Plus: The EFF is willing to participate in an ANC-led government provided that the DA and Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) are excluded, citing their rejection of progressive internationalism and economic transformation policies.

  8. Proposals for a New Agreement:

    • A new agreement or Statement of Intent between the EFF and ANC, excluding other parties.
    • Inclusion of key principles informed by the Freedom Charter, Progressive Internationalism, and Section 9.2 of the Constitution.
    • Assurance of non-cooperation with the DA in any sphere of government to remove the ANC from power.
    • Participation in executive roles as long as the DA and FF Plus are not included.
    • Representation in all clusters of national government as ministers or deputies, and leadership roles in legislatures.

The EFF’s Secretary General, CMSR. Marshall Dlamini, emphasized that the EFF's participation is aimed at bringing meaningful change to the lives of the oppressed and the people of South Africa as a whole. The EFF appeals to the ANC to consider this proposal to collectively combat counter-revolutionary forces and preserve the gains of the liberation struggle.

This proposal reflects a significant moment in South Africa’s political landscape, with the potential to shape the direction of the country’s future governance. The EFF's clear stance against working with the DA and FF Plus highlights their commitment to economic transformation and the total liberation of the oppressed.
