Duduzile Zuma, daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, has been sworn in as a new Member of Parliament (MP) alongside other MK party members, including impeached former Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe, Andile Mngxitama, and Des Van Rooyen. The MK party secured 58 seats in the National Assembly, becoming South Africa's third-largest party after the May 29 general elections. Hlophe, who was appointed as the party's chief whip, stated that they are now the official opposition.
Party members boycotted the formal swearing MPs at the National Assembly sitting over their protest of vote rigging allegations with the IEC. Duduzile Zuma has always given her father unwavering public support, even when facing backlash in his alleged corruption dealings and court woes. She continued to stand by him when he announced that he would be campaigning for the MK after leaving the African National Congress.
MK announced that impeached former Judge John Hlophe will also be sworn in after being appointed as the party's chief whip. Hlophe, 65, was impeached as Judge President of the high court for gross misconduct. As a member of parliament, Hlophe emphasized that they have been elected by the people of the country and will ensure they stay above petty politics.
