On May 8, two schoolboys from different schools in South Africa got into a fight while on their way home. The nine-year-old boy returned to retrieve a knife and stabbed the 10-year-old boy to death. The police found the boy in an ambulance with a stab wound on the left side of his chest. Paramedics pointed to a silver stainless steel knife with a black handle on the ground. T
he youngster was certified dead on the spot in Nomzamo Park, Brandfort. The mother identified the dead boy as her son. Both boys were in Grade 4 in different primary schools in Brandfort. An inquest has been opened, and the nine-year-old has been turned over to his parents for referral to social services. In October 2022, a 16-year-old stabbed another 15-year-old to death after a fistfight between the youths escalated. The defense for the youngster on trial in February 2024 claimed that the accused had no intention of stabbing and murdering the other boy. The teenager was convicted and sentenced to five years of imprisonment.
