Two police detectives from Rustenburg SAPS, Constable Bontle Mmudi and Sergeant Yvonne Susan Sikwane, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in corruption and extortion. The arrests were made following a sting operation conducted by the Provincial Anti-corruption Unit.
According to reports, the officers had been accepting money from a complainant since 2022, promising to expedite a fraud case that had been opened against the complainant. It is alleged that the complainant had already paid the officers R14,000, with the promise of further payments. However, the situation escalated when the officers demanded an additional R10,000 from the complainant.
To address this corruption, an entrapment operation was approved by the court. As part of this operation, the officers were given the R10,000 entrapment money. The Provincial Anti-corruption Unit then moved in and arrested the officers, recovering the R10,000 from them.
The arrest of Constable Bontle Mmudi and Sergeant Yvonne Susan Sikwane highlights the seriousness of corruption within law enforcement agencies. It also underscores the importance of proactive measures to combat such misconduct and uphold the integrity of the justice system.
