Theft gone wrong: Drug addict steals police car causing severe car accident at Devland

Johannesburg, Jan 24 (HMR News) - An unnamed suspect stole a Johannesburg Trio police car at Eldorado Park today. According to eyewitnesses and the sergeant driving the car, the car was parked inside the police officer's yard when he heard the car ignition starting. Typically, the vehicles report if they are not driven by authorized personnel and can be controlled remotely by a designated team. 

The car is reported to belong to another female sergeant who was off duty today but was forced to report to duty due to this matter. 

The suspect drove past a red traffic light at Devland Hyperland Cash and Carry, knocking one government car and damaging the right back wheel. He proceeded to bump into a Toyota Corolla Quest, causing severe damage to the vehicle. Upon bumping into the Toyota, the car changed its direction to face the oncoming traffic, exhibiting the impact caused by the crash. 



According to affected parties, especially the Quest drivers, the police car exhibited signs of malfunctioning based on the speed at which it was moving; the suspect attempted to stop the vehicle but could not do so. 

Additionally, the suspect was diagnosed to be driving the car under the influence of recreational drugs. Tests are expected to be conducted to reach a factual conclusion. 


According to the officers who attended the crime scene. Two dockets will be opened. The one wi be from Eldorado Park SAPS and Diepkloof SAPS. The charges will include theft, damage to state property, and reckless driving.
