A Day of Violence in Verulam
Redcliffe, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), witnessed a tragic incident this Saturday afternoon when a 23-year-old man was shot while in the company of two females. This alarming event unfolded on Quarry Road, adding to a disturbing trend of violence in the Verulam area, as it marks the third shooting incident that Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) has responded to in the past 24 hours.
Victim's Condition and Immediate Response
Around 16:39, RUSA received a distress call and swiftly arrived at the scene. There, they found the victim lying on the side of the road, in need of urgent medical attention. He had suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen, and the bullet had exited his back, striking his right arm. Medical responders on-site quickly stabilized him before transporting him to the hospital by ambulance.
A Confrontation Escalates
According to the victim's statement, he had recently met the two females he was walking with, and they were on their way to Mhlasini, also in KZN when their journey took a horrifying turn. The alleged assailant confronted the young man, questioning his association with one of the females, believed to be a friend's girlfriend. The situation escalated rapidly when the suspect produced a firearm and opened fire, causing injury to the victim.

Suspect Flees, Females Escape
In the ensuing chaos, both females fled on foot, seeking safety from the aggressor. Meanwhile, the alleged shooter made his escape by boarding a white Toyota Quantum, suspected to be a mini-bus taxi. Law enforcement agencies are now actively searching for the suspect and examining any leads that may arise from the females' accounts.

This shocking incident comes on the heels of two other shootings that Reaction Officers have attended to in Verulam, KZN, within the past 24 hours. The increase in violent incidents in the area raises concerns about community safety and the urgent need for enhanced security measures.
