Grangetown, KwaZulu-Natal, a 17-year-old robbery suspect was apprehended, and a stolen watch was successfully recovered.
The incident unfolded on Garden Street when the suspect approached a high school student, menacingly brandishing a knife, and forcibly robbed him of his watch before swiftly fleeing on foot.
Alarmed by the traumatic ordeal, the victim immediately sought refuge at his home and relayed the terrifying encounter to his father. Fueled by concern and a deep sense of responsibility, the determined parent wasted no time and initiated a relentless search for the suspect. Astonishingly, his relentless pursuit led him to George Sewpersad Street, in close proximity to Verulam Secondary School, where he spotted the fleeing culprit.
Undaunted by the situation, the father pursued the suspect on foot with unwavering determination, ultimately succeeding in apprehending him. During the capture, the stolen watch, along with the knife used in the robbery, was recovered from the suspect's possession.
The incident was promptly reported to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 15:39. In response, RUSA dispatched their dedicated Reaction Officers to the scene. Upon arrival, they conducted a thorough interview with the suspect. During the questioning, the suspect revealed that he had discontinued his education in 2022.
The young suspect, a resident of Redcliffe, KZN, was subsequently handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Verulam for further legal proceedings.
