The City of Cape Town is taking strong action in response to recent incidents of trucks being burnt. In an effort to curb such acts of violence and vandalism, the city authorities have announced stringent measures. For each truck that is set on fire, they will impound 25 taxis.
It is essential to note that this decision is not a declaration of war on the taxi industry, as the City officials have clarified. The primary goal is to ensure public safety and protect property in the region. The move follows the aftermath of a taxi strike initiated by the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) and eight regional associations.
The strike has resulted in chaos and has left numerous commuters stranded across the province. The City of Cape Town remains committed to maintaining order and responding appropriately to any violence or unlawful acts.
