President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on the newly elected ANC Youth League (ANCYL) leadership to develop ideas to lure young people into voting for the party in 2024. The ANC president emphasized that the youth league's main task is to mobilize for the ruling party's election victory. He stressed that the revival of youth structures represents the ruling party's goal to rebuild and renew itself. Ramaphosa also urged the ruling party's youth wing to tackle the "ticking time bomb" of high unemployment among young people. He emphasized that the newly elected leadership will lead young people at a time when the cost of living is high and unemployment, particularly youth unemployment, is unacceptably high.

He also called for the government to become more dynamic, systematic, and urgent in addressing the unemployment crisis. The ANC government recognized the state's pivotal role in creating employment and other economic opportunities, and the presidential employment stimulus has created employment and livelihood opportunities for over a million people. Ramaphosa is aware that more must be done and looks forward to engaging with the contributions of the youth league on job creation initiatives. The youth unemployment rate currently sits at 46.5%, according to Statistics South Africa.
