Tshwane, South Africa - July 2, 2023 - With only 18 days remaining until the kickoff of the FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture has taken note of the concerns raised by Banyana Banyana, the South African women's national football team. These concerns have been brought to the attention of the South African Football Association (SAFA) and the South African Football Players Union (SAPFU).
Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa has been in contact with SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan and has received written communication from SAPFU. Minister Kodwa emphasizes the importance of the team staying focused on their preparation for the tournament and encourages them to showcase their remarkable skills and talent on the global stage of the FIFA World Cup. To address the concerns raised by the team and receive an update on their readiness for the upcoming World Cup, Minister Kodwa will be meeting with the South African Football Players Union on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. The meeting will discuss matters relating to government support, the team's working conditions, welfare, health conditions, and transparency and accountability regarding contract agreements.
