In the recent court hearings, several witnesses came forward to provide their accounts, presenting contrasting versions of the incident. Nthabiseng Mokete, a neighbor of Kelly Khumalo, testified that she saw Meyiwa lying face up in the kitchen after being shot. This contradicts Khumalo's version, where she described Meyiwa moving from the kitchen to the sitting room. The discrepancies in the witnesses' testimonies have raised questions about the sequence of events that led to Meyiwa's tragic death.
Furthermore, Khaya Stanley Ngcatshe, another neighbor, added to the unfolding narrative, revealing that he heard loud noises from the Khumalo home on the night of the incident. He witnessed a young man jumping over a wall into his yard, claiming he had nothing to do with the situation at the Khumalo house. Later, Ngcatshe found Meyiwa on the floor in the kitchen, and with the help of others, rushed him to the hospital. However, the witness accounts have left the presiding judge, Ratha Mokgoatlheng, puzzled over the varying versions presented by the legal counsels of the accused.
In a surprising twist, Advocate Zandile Mshololo, representing one of the accused, suggested that Kelly Khumalo may have had a motive to "get rid" of Meyiwa. Referring to an SMS allegedly sent by Khumalo to her sister expressing her desire to end the relationship, the defense lawyer implied that Khumalo had intentions to break ties with Meyiwa. These revelations have added complexity to the trial and raised questions about the relationship dynamics between the involved parties.
