David De Gea has announced his departure from Manchester United as a free agent after 12 seasons at Old Trafford. The 32-year-old's contract expired at the end of June, and despite talks throughout the season, no new deal was agreed. De Gea expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the love and support from the club over the past 12 years. He praised the club's achievements and the pride he took in representing the biggest club in the world. He also acknowledged the unforgettable and successful period he had at Manchester United and expressed his desire to undertake a new challenge in new surroundings.

United boss Erik ten Hag has been pushing to sign a new goalkeeper in the transfer window, with a deal for Inter Milan's Andre Onana close. He praised De Gea, who won the Premier League's golden glove last season, for his quality and character. He also praised his performance, winning Player of the Year awards from both fans and team-mates on four occasions. De Gea is personally grateful for the 25 clean sheets he provided last season and his overall contribution during his first year at the club.
