- A 49-year-old man has been arrested by Reaction Officers following allegations of raping his eight-year-old stepdaughter at their residence in Buffelsdraai, KwaZulu-Natal.
On Wednesday evening, a concerned resident contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance in apprehending the suspect. Upon arrival, RUSA members interviewed the child's 32-year-old mother, who revealed that on Monday, neighbors informed her that her common-law husband and daughter were alone in their home when they heard the child's screams, pleading for the man to stop. The traumatized child managed to flee from the house.
Following the incident, the mother interviewed her daughter, who made the distressing allegation that her stepfather had raped her. The young girl disclosed that this was not the first time, claiming that she had been subjected to penetration on two previous occasions but was too fearful to inform her mother.
The mother promptly filed a rape case with the Verulam South African Police Service (SAPS) on Tuesday and sought a medical examination for her daughter, which was conducted by a District Surgeon.
The medical report confirmed the child had been subjected to penetration, leading the case to be transferred to the Phoenix Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences Unit (FCS). Cooperation between RUSA and the investigating officer resulted in the swift arrest of the suspect.
Upon the mother's guidance, RUSA officers apprehended the man at a house approximately 200 meters away, preventing his potential escape. He was subsequently detained at the Verulam SAPS.
The couple has a three-year-old daughter and an eleven-month-old son
