Retired Colonel Charles Okello N'Gola, Deputy Minister for Equality and Labor, was shot dead in his home on Tuesday morning.

It is not yet known if there was a dispute between the soldiers and Colonel N'Gola.

The soldier, who has yet to be formally identified, then shot himself.

Witnesses said the soldiers ran around the neighborhood and fired in the air before pointing the guns at themselves.

Initial reports suggested that many people may have been injured, and videos on social media showed shocked locals at the scene. Colonel Engola is a senior government official and previously served as Undersecretary of Defense.

The Ugandan parliamentary speaker confirmed the death of Colonel N'Gola in a brief statement while presiding over the morning meeting.
