Empowering Young Black Women: Thumeka Mcobothi's Mission to Inspire the Next Generation of Leaders
Thumeka "Black Queen" Mcobothi is a trailblazing entrepreneur and Managing Director of Mathayi Black Queen Pty Ltd. She has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the South African business world, building a reputation as a serial entrepreneur without funding or backing.
Thumeka started her entrepreneurial journey with Black Queen Clothing, an apparel brand that quickly gained popularity among locals in Bizana and the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. She was inspired to start her clothing brand after seeing the high demand for locally-made affordable, and stylish clothing in her community.

Despite limited resources, Thumeka's passion for entrepreneurship, hard work, and resilience allowed her to build Black Queen Clothing from the ground up. She worked tirelessly to ensure her brand gained recognition and became a regional household name.
In 2021, Thumeka founded L'aQua Joyce Prepared Water, a bottled still water supplier, in pursuit of her lifelong dream. L'aQua Joyce Prepared Water currently supplies water to four garages, including BP Garage in Seaview and Magusheni and two Total Garages in Bizana town - Biztown Lounge and Sinenkani.
Thumeka's tenacity and hard work have not gone unnoticed. Her businesses continue to thrive, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and other unforeseen circumstances. Her success story serves as an inspiration to many young entrepreneurs in South Africa.
Thumeka draws inspiration from her background and upbringing in the small village of Marina in Bizana. Growing up, she witnessed first-hand the struggles that small businesses face in underdeveloped regions of South Africa. These experiences instilled in her a strong sense of determination and resilience, which she has drawn upon throughout her entrepreneurial journey.

Thumeka's mother, who passed away when she was just 26 years old, was also a significant influence in her life. Her mother was her rock and she taught Thumeka the value of hard work, perseverance, and self-sufficiency.
Several young entrepreneurs, including the founder of Skinny Stu, have also inspired Thumeka on her entrepreneurial journey. She sees entrepreneurship as a way to empower herself and create jobs for other young people in her community.
Thumeka's success as an entrepreneur has brought financial benefits and a sense of pride and empowerment. She believes that entrepreneurship is an excellent way to break the cycle of poverty and unemployment in underdeveloped regions of South Africa.
