He develops an obsession with a young housekeeper and defaces the portrait of the art collector and his daughter. As food supplies run short, he is forced to eat dog food and suffers from tooth decay. He finds a secret compartment with a bible and a smoke alarm, which he sets off in an attempt to get help. After singing a song and reading a passage from the bible, he leaves the art collector a note apologizing for breaking into his house, before succumbing to starvation and dying.
