Six days of water shortages are expected after a power outage that leaves reservoirs critically low.

The Brixton, Hurst Hill, and Crosby reservoirs are part of Johannesburg's Commando water system, which may experience disruptions for six to seven days due to the power outage that affected the Eikenhof bulk water pump station's ability to provide water.

Johannesburg Water said that a power outage at Rand Water's Vereeniging water treatment facility occurred early on Monday morning, affecting delivery to several of Johannesburg's water systems. According to a statement from Johannesburg Water, the Quellerina and Waterval reservoirs were to have been operating at their best by Monday night.

According to the utility:

Rand Water’s Meredale reservoirs and Johannesburg Water’s Waterval 2 reservoir were empty. Although pumping was recovered to 100% at the Eikenhof pump station, the system is still batting to fill the reservoirs

Teams are being sent to rectify the water supply as quickly as possible. The Commando water system is still the most affected.

Twitter users have expressed frustration over the water disruptions that have left some residents’ dry taps.

For some reason the Commando system is always a problem. Can you guys be any more useless? We’ve been struggling with water for months but all we ever get is limp wristed excuses. Are you too incompetent to fix the problem?
