A defiant Julius Malema has pledged to carry on with the EFF's countrywide shutdown on Monday despite two court interdicts barring violence and threats from police that anyone breaching the law would be dealt with.
Malema declared whether they kill or not kill. We will be in South African streets. It makes no difference what the security cluster or the judge says. Nobody can put a halt to a revolution.
The province's law enforcement authorities are on high alert today, as hundreds of EFF members are anticipated to join the national shutdown demanding an end to load shedding and the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa, security cluster ministers, the country's official opposition, many non-governmental organizations, and several political analysts all agreed on one thing: protect South Africa from a nationwide shutdown spearheaded by EFF leader Julius Malema.
Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini reported that his house had been attacked.
Lux, whose Twitter handle is @nhlanhla_lux_:
My house just got hit with two bombs, all my neighbour's windows are shattered imagine my house. We beat the EFF at their own game on the streets by defending Soweto brilliantly with the all law enforcement on our side. So they bomb & kill my entire family because they lost
There is not much damage to Lux's property, and the police are circling the area since it is believed that this is the hotspot for the current unrest.
Multiple arrests have been carried out throughout the country.
In Cape Town, the SABC news team was attacked. According to reports, the incident occurred on the N2 near Borcherds Quarry in Nyanga in the early hours of Monday. Two males allegedly approached the crew's truck and hit it with a weapon while filming the nationwide shutdown. The piece struck a crew member in the front vehicle on the head.
